Julie Haener is the co-anchor of KTVU's top-rated Bay Area newscast, The Ten O'clock News and the co-anchor of the award-winning KTVU Channel 2 News at 6. Since joining KTVU in 1997, Haener has distinguished herself as a consistent, thoughtful and responsible nightly news anchor.
"We live in a technologically rich time, when a constant flow of information is coming at us 24/7 from a wealth of sources," Haener points out. "So if every night I can clearly, accurately and concisely deliver the news of the day that is important to KTVU's viewers, I think that's a real service to people who lead very busy lives."
The Emmy award-winning anchor has a long history in professional journalism. Before moving to the Bay Area, Haener co-anchored a two-hour weekday morning newscast at KIRO-TV in Seattle, where she also hit the streets on a regular basis for live reporting. Prior to that, Haener worked as the main nightly news anchor and reporter at KJEO-TV in Fresno. She began her professional career in 1990 at KNDO-TV in Yakima, Washington, as an anchor, reporter, producer, editor, writer and photographer. Haener grew up in Tacoma, Washington and is a graduate of the University of Washington where she majored in Broadcast Journalism.
Throughout her career, Haener's colleagues have repeatedly recognized her commitment to journalism and broadcasting. She has received five Emmy awards while at KTVU, including one in 2004 for Best On-Camera News Anchor. In that same year, the American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT) named Haener as the Best TV On-Air Reporter. In 2008, the Associated Press named Haener and her co-anchor, Frank Somerville, Best Anchor-Team. In 2007, the Radio and Television News Directors Association of Northern California (RTNDA) honored the Ten O'Clock News as the Best 60 Minute Newscast. In 2002, RTNDA honored KTVU Channel 2 News at 6 as the Best 30 Minute Newscast.
Haener says she takes great pride and joy living in and serving the Bay Area, and says she can't think of a better place for her and her husband to raise their two sons. In addition to her work as a journalist and as a mother, Haener is an accomplished photographer and photo-book designer and publisher. She also loves the outdoors and particularly enjoys walking, hiking, horse-back riding and seeking out new adventures during her extensive travels.
