NCAA Game Summary - Fairfield Vs. Missouri

Friday, November 21, 2008

(Sports Network) - Demarre Carroll scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds, and Missouri rebounded from a tough loss on Thursday to rip Fairfield 87-59 in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic.

The Tigers (3-1) lost to Xavier 75-71 on Thursday, largely because of shortcomings at the foul line. Carroll missed two free throws that would have kept Missouri in front in the final minutes, and the Tigers as a team made just 15-of-31 free throws in the loss.

The performance at the foul line improved marginally on Friday, as Mizzou made 9-of-15 free throws, but it was no matter in the blowout win. Matt Lawrence scored 14 points for the Tigers, and Leo Lyons had 12 points and 10 boards.

Missouri will next play USC on Sunday for fourth place in the tournament.

Warren Edney scored 13 points and tallied five boards for the Stags (1-3), who suffered two blowout losses in the tourney. Greg Nero and Herbie Allen scored 12 points apiece for Fairfield, which lost 74-57 to Virginia Tech on Thursday.

Missouri struggled early, and trailed 18-9 with 12:17 left in the first half. The Tigers outscored Fairfield 31-11 the rest of the way, though, and took a 40-29 lead into halftime.

It was all Tigers in the second half, as Mizzou pushed its lead to as much as 29 points on the way to the easy win.
