Creighton (3-1) At Nebraska (4-0)
GAME NOTES: The Creighton Bluejays make the 50-mile trip to Lincoln to take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers in a non-league matchup at the Devaney Center. Creighton got off to a 3-0 start, but fell at Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday night. Each of the Bluejays' three wins came at home, and now they face a stretch of three road tilts in a four-game span. As for the Huskers, they've gotten off to a 4-0 start and are coming off a 71-57 win over Saint Louis on Tuesday night. Five of the team's first six games are at the Devaney Center. Nebraska holds a 23-18 edge in the head-to-head series with their in-state rival, although the Bluejays have won eight of the last nine meetings.
Creighton lost Tuesday night's game on a tip-in with seven seconds to play, spoiling a lead that at one point ballooned to 16 points. Kenny Lawson Jr. paced the Bluejays with 15 points, while Booker Woodfox scored 13, and Cavel Witter added 11. The Bluejays were outscored in the paint, 44-12. They are usually a better offensive team, having averaged 80 ppg through four games. Woodfox is scoring a team-best 15 ppg, and he is a 91-percent free-throw shooter. Witter has knocked down 8-of-15 three-pointers and is averaging 14.3 ppg. P'Allen Stinnett is next in line with 13 ppg, though he scored just five points on 2-of-10 shooting Tuesday night.
Nebraska is led by the tandem of Sek Henry and Steve Harley. Henry is shooting a ridiculous 68 percent from the field while averaging a team-best 11.5 ppg. Harley is averaging 10.8 ppg and leads the club in minutes played. The Cornhuskers have been a relentless defensive team, holding opponents to just 51.2 ppg on 38.2 percent shooting. They put the clamps down once again Tuesday night, holding Saint Louis to 57 points on 41.7 percent shooting. Henry led the way with 19 points, followed by Ade Dagunduro with 14, and Harley with 12. The Huskers shot 59.1 percent from the field as a team.
Creighton has had the edge in this series over the last few years, but Nebraska is playing better right now and has the homecourt advantage.
