GAME NOTES: Gunning for their third road win of the young season, the Pilots from the University of Portland entertain the Nevada Wolf Pack in a non- conference affair tonight at the Chiles Center. Portland has defeated both Washington and Yale at home so far in 2008-09, but the team's most recent game took place at UC Davis last Sunday. That particular trip resulted in a 75-72 victory, giving Portland two straight wins regardless of venue or location. Meanwhile, the five-time defending Western Athletic Conference champion Wolf Pack has alternated wins and losses through the first four games of the season and is coming off a 67-59 setback to Pacific at home in Reno on Wednesday. After this outing, Nevada heads to Colorado State and then returns home for four in a row and seven of the next eight. The Pilots lead the all-time series between these teams by a count of 22-18 and won the most recent meeting back in 2003 by a score of 86-70 in Portland.

Hitting just seven field goals in the first half got the Wolf Pack off to a slow start and the team never really recovered as it bowed to Pacific earlier this week. Luke Babbitt came up a rebound shy of a double-double as he tallied a team-best 19 points, while Malik Cooke tacked on 13 points and seven boards as well. Armon Johnson accounted for seven of the unit's 12 assists, but that didn't make up for his 3-of-10 shooting from the floor. One of for players averaging double-digit scoring after four games, Babbitt is at the top of the list with his 15.5 ppg and is also the best rebounder the squad has to offer in 2008-09 with 8.3 rpg. Cooke (11.5 ppg) is no slouch on the glass though, collecting close to seven rebounds per game himself for a team that is generating a mere 65.2 ppg while shooting an awful 38.0 percent from the field and 26.7 percent behind the three-point line.

The Pilots led by as many as 16 points in the second half versus UC Davis last weekend, but needed to dial up the defense down the stretch just to hold on for the three-point win. T.J. Campbell converted 4-of-9 beyond the arc to finish with a team-best 20 points, adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals along the way, while Jared Stohl made an impact off the bench with 17 points on 4-of-7 shooting out on the perimeter. Nik Raivio and Robin Smeulders contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively. Raivio, who has led the team in scoring in two of four games, is atop the list overall with his 17.8 ppg, even though he has made a mere 3-of-15 shots behind the three-point line. Smeulders checks in with 15.0 ppg and Campbell 10.8 ppg as all three double-digit scorers are shooting at least 51 percent from the floor. As a team, Portland is hitting 51.4 percent from the field en route to a healthy 77.0 ppg.

Nevada is going to struggle this season after losing so many crucial parts, but the team should be able to get by the Pilots, even if it is a tough task for the visitors.

Predicted Outcome

Nevada 68, University of Portland 65
