Wednesday, December 3, 2008
Cedar Falls, IA -- (Sports Network) - Craig Brackins registered a huge double- double with 32 points and 16 rebounds as the Iowa State Cyclones slipped by the Northern Iowa Panthers in a 71-66 overtime non-conference affair at the McLeod Center. Also scoring in double figures for the Cyclones (5-1) was Diante Garrett with 17 points, adding nine rebounds and four of the unit's six assists on the night. The Panthers (4-3) were led by Adam Koch and Kwadzo Ahelegbe with 18 points apiece, the former also clearing a team-best 12 rebounds as well. Despite shooting just 37.5 percent from the field and 2-of-12 behind the three-point line in the first half, the Panthers retained a 33-31 advantage at the break. In the second half ISU battled back by converting 47.8 percent from the floor, but it was Kerwin Dunham's three-pointer in the final moments for Northern Iowa that sent the game into overtime locked at 62-62. In the bonus frame UNI made just 1-of-6 shots from the floor and all four attempts out on the perimeter as it came up five-point short. The Panthers took great care of the ball with just three turnovers, but could not survive 6-of-32 shooting from three-point range.
