McAlarney And Irish Pound Paladins

South Bend, IN -- (Sports Network) - Kyle McAlarney poured in a game-high 32 points and hit nine three-pointers to lead the eighth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish to a 93-61 triumph over the Furman Paladins at the Joyce Center.McAlarney was 11-of-20 from the floor and 9-of-17 from behind the arc while Ryan Ayres chipped in 19 points for Notre Dame (5-1), which set a new school record for most consecutive home wins with its 39th straight victory, breaking the old mark set from 1943-1948. Tory Jackson had 17 points, eight assists and six rebounds and Zach Hillesland grabbed a game-high 12 boards with eight points and five assists in the win. Notre Dame was without junior forward and reigning Big East player of the year Luke Harangody, who is sidelined indefinitely after being diagnosed with pneumonia. The Paladins had four players in double figures with Justin Dehm leading the way with 14 points off the bench. Brandon Sebirumbi logged 12 points and 10 boards for Furman (1-4), which has dropped four straight games since opening the season with a home win over Emory. Jordan Miller netted 11 points and Bryson Barnes 10 in the loss. Notre Dame held a 15-point lead at the break, 37-22, and put the game away with an explosive second half that featured 56 Fighting Irish points. Game Notes The Paladins and Irish met only one previous time on the hardwood, with ND posting a 75-50 victory in 2002...Notre Dame hit 14-of-35 three-pointers overall...The Irish shot 52.2 percent (36-of-69) from the field for the game.
