NCAA Game Summary - Old Dominion At Charlotte

Sunday, November 16, 2008

(Sports Network) - A three-pointer by Jonathan Adams with six seconds to play proved to be the game winner as the Old Dominion Monarchs posted a 69-68 win over the Charlotte 49ers in a non-conference outing at Halton Arena.

Adams finished with a mere five points for the Monarchs (1-0) as the team made good on 9-of-18 shots beyond the arc in the comeback bid. Gerald Lee, Ben Finney and Darius James all tallied 14 points for the visitors, with Lee also clearing a game-high nine rebounds along the way.

Leading the way for Charlotte (1-1) was Charlie Coley who dropped in 14 points, followed by Lamont Mack with 13 on a mere 3-of-11 shooting from the floor. DiJuan Harris chipped in 12 points and backup Ian Andersen contributed 10 points in just 13 minutes off the bench.

Knocking down 6-of-10 beyond the arc in the first half, ODU managed to move out to a 36-28 advantage at the break.

Midway through the second half a pair of free throws by Charlotte's Phil Jones knotted the score at 47-47, with the 49ers eventually taking a seven-point lead with four minutes to play. A three-pointer by Finney with 16 seconds remaining drew ODU to within a point at 67-66, setting the scene for the game winner by Adams.

The Monarchs overcame 18 turnovers and 24-of-27 shooting at the free-throw line by the 49ers by leading the way on the glass, 39-23.
