Harrell, Red Raiders Overwhelm UMass

Lubbock, TX -- (Sports Network) - Graham Harrell completed 27-of-34 passes for 322 yards and four touchdowns as the 11th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders pummeled the Massachusetts Minutemen, 56-14.Shannon Woods rushed for 108 yards and three scores on 10 carries and added 53 yards receiving for the high-powered Red Raiders (4-0), who have scored at least 35 points in each of their first four games. Baron Batch caught five balls for 68 yards and Michael Crabtree had five receptions for 62 yards and one touchdown. Liam Coen completed 13-of-20 passes for 145 yards and one interception for the Minutemen (2-2), who have dropped two straight. Korrey Davis gained 51 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown, while Victor Cruz hauled in five passes for 54 yards. Texas Tech scored on six of seven possessions in the first half and never looked back. The Red Raiders took the opening kickoff and moved the ball quickly down the field, with Woods' two-yard touchdown run capping the nine-play, 58-yard drive. After UMass went three-and-out on its first offensive series, Harrell connected with Tramain Swindall for a 17-yard TD. A 53-yard fumble return by Brian Ellis put the visitors on the board, but Harrell's 12-yard TD pass to Eric Morris with 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter gave the Red Raiders a 21-7 advantage. Texas Tech continued to overwhelm the Minutemen in the second stanza. Woods broke off a 38-yard run for a score and Harrell threw touchdown passes of two yards to Crabtree and four yards to Morris to give the Red Raiders a commanding 42-7 lead at the break. Coen's first pass of the second half was picked off by Darcel McBath, and he raced 45 yards for the touchdown. Woods' third TD of the game -- an 18-yarder -- made it a 56-7 game with 3:20 remaining in the third quarter. The Minutemen got a two-yard touchdown run from Davis in the final minute of regulation. Game Notes The contest marked the first-ever meeting between these two programs on the gridiron...Texas Tech outgained UMass, 538-258...The Minutemen were held to 92 yards rushing.
