NCAA Game Summary - North Texas At Middle Tennessee

Murfreesboro, TN -- (Sports Network) - Phillip Tanner ran for 159 yards and scored six touchdowns to lead the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders to a lop-sided 52-13 victory over the North Texas Mean Green in a Sun Belt Conference affair at Floyd Stadium. Joe Craddock completed 19-of-31 for 251 yards and a score in the Middle Tennessee (5-6, 3-3 SBC) win, while Patrick Honeycutt grabbed seven passes for 91 yards. Giovanni Vizza threw for 221 yards and a touchdown for North Texas (1-10, 0-5). Casey Fitzgerald hauled in 12 passes for 118 yards and a score. Joe Craddock got things going with a 45-yard scoring strike to Eldred King early in the opening period, followed by a 28-yard Alan Gendreau field goal just minutes later to give Middle Tennessee a 10-0 lead. The Blue Raiders added another score on a 12-yard Tanner run midway through the quarter to take a 17-0 lead. The Mean Green got on the board late in the frame with a 57-yard toss from Vizza to Casey Fitzgerald. A Cam Montgomery 11-yard touchdown run got North Texas back into the end zone, but the extra point attempt was blocked and the Mean Green trailed, 17-13 with 18 seconds remaining in the first quarter. A one-yard touchdown plunge by Tanner early in the second quarter gave Middle Tennessee a 24-13 lead. Tanner then scored on runs of 19 and 66 yards within minutes of each other in the second quarter to give the Blue Raiders a 38-13 lead. Tanner scored yet again with 4:28 to play in the second quarter on a 36-yard scamper to extend the Middle Tennessee advantage. A 62-yard kickoff return by Tanner to open the third quarter gave Middle Tennessee a 52-13 lead.
