NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico State At Nevada

(Sports Network) - Chase Holbrook threw for 409 yards and three touchdowns to lead the New Mexico State Aggies to a 48-45 victory over the Nevada Wolf Pack in a Western Athletic Conference tilt at Mackay Stadium.

Marquell Colston led the ground attack for NMSU (3-2, 1-0 WAC), rushing for 118 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries.

Colin Kaepernick threw three touchdowns and finished with 194 yards for Nevada (3-3, 1-1), while Vai Taua rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Taua also grabbed five passes for 49 yards and two more scores.

The Wolf Pack took an early 7-0 lead with a 32-yard touchdown run by Kaepernick.

The Aggies evened the score at 7-7 with an 11-play, 80-yard drive which resulted in a three-yard touchdown run by Colston.

Nevada regained the lead late in the first period with a 41-yard field goal by Brett Jaekle.

Early in the second stanza Holbrook connected with Weston Neiman for a 14-yard touchdown pass.

However, the Pack regained the lead once again, as Taua scored on an eight- yard touchdown run.

The offensive slugfest continued as Holbrook's 17-yard touchdown pass to Colston gave the Aggies a 21-17 lead midway through the second frame.

A three-yard touchdown run by Taua late in the second frame gave the Wolf Pack a 24-21 advantage as the two teams headed into the break.

The high-octane play continued in the third quarter, as Holbrook scored on a two-yard run early in the quarter to give the Aggies a 28-24 lead.

Kaepernick put the Wolf Pack back on top with a five-yard TD strike to Taua.

NMSU evened the score at 31-31 midway through the third quarter with a 29-yard field goal by Kyle Hughes, and added an 83-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Oren Long to take a seven-point lead.

However, the Pack would not go quietly, as Kaepernick connected with Taua with a 16-yard scoring strike in the final seconds of the third quarter.

NMSU scored the first 10 points in the final frame, as Holbrook connected with Marcus Anderson for a seven-yard scoring strike, which was followed by an 18- yard field goal by Hughes.

Kaepernick found Chris Wellington with a 19-yard touchdown pass late in the final frame, but the Pack would come no closer, as New Mexico State was able to hold on for the three-point win.
