NCAA Game Summary - New Mexico State At Nebraska

POSTED: 8:59 pm PDT September 13, 2008

Marlon Lucky rushed for a pair of touchdowns as the Nebraska Cornhuskers defeated the New Mexico State Aggies, 38-7, in non-conference action at Memorial Stadium.

Lucky ran the ball 15 times for a game-high 103 yards for the Huskers while quarterback Joe Ganz converted 13-of-17 passing for 158 yards and a score as well.

The Aggies were playing in their first game of the 2008 campaign after their opener against Nicholls State was canceled back on September 4. Signal-caller Chase Holbrook connected on 15-of-30 passing for just 142 yards, was sacked three times and picked off twice in the losing effort.

Nebraska scored 35 unanswered points to begin the game and never looked back, beginning with an eight-yard touchdown run by Lucky late in the first quarter.

In the second frame Lucky turned quarterback as he found Ganz with a 20-yard TD strike to move the score to 14-0. Five and a half minutes later Ganz handled the ball himself, finding the end zone on a 33-yard run to give the Huskers a 21-0 advantage at halftime.

In the third quarter Nebraska added to its lead with a one-yard TD run by Lucky and a 35-yard scoring pass from Ganz to Mike McNeill at the 5:01 mark.

The only score of the game for NMSU was set up by a fumble return of 48 yards by cornerback Marvin Betts, taking the ball to the three-yard line of the Huskers. From there Marquell Colston slipped into the end zone to cut the deficit to 35-7.

The Huskers capped off a successful night with a 19-yard field goal by Alex Henery at the 8:15 mark of the final frame.

Nebraska punished the visitors with a rushing attack that generated 330 yards on the ground, the team finishing with 553 yards of offense overall.

NMSU receiver Chris Williams collected four receptions for 42 yards, moving into third place on the team's career receiving list in the process.
