Professor Wrestling: Pacman All Talk

Jones Stares Down Ron Killings In TNA Debut

POSTED: 7:20 pm PDT August 9, 2007
UPDATED: 10:03 pm PDT August 12, 2007

Listen up!

Class is in session.

Adam "Pacman" Jones was in the building, but he didn't do much. The suspended NFL star was allowed to appear on TNA's "Hard Justice" pay-per-view in Orlando. Jones, however, only had a verbal scrap with Ron Killings -- and didn't get physical. Jones was later allegedly "attacked" backstage, but nothing was shown on camera. It was all an act for any upcoming storylines. As for what that is, nothing was revealed. The Tennessee Titans didn't want him there in the first place and only let him go if he promised not to mix it up with anyone. All of this leads to one question: Why do I have to pay for this? Could we please get rid of this jerk right now, TNA? No one cares about this bum.

Podcast: Episode 41

Oh yeah, there was actual wrestling in this show. Here's a rundown of how I thought the big matches would go, and what really happened:

Barroom Brawl Match: James Storm vs. Rhino
What Should Happen: Storm poured beer down Rhino's throat in the last PPV, and Rhino, a recovering alcoholic (in real life) didn't appreciate it. Why Rhino would agree to more booze-related matches is a puzzler. You'd think he'd go for a coffee and cigarettes match. Or perhaps they could talk it out. At any rate, it's time for Rhino to take 12 steps to Storm's noggin.

What Will Happen: Cheers to Rhino, the guy who will win the match.

What Did Happen: Cheers to Storm, who hit Rhino in the back of the head with a fake beer bottle and won the contest.

Challenge Match: Team 3D vs. The Steiner Brothers
What Should Happen: They're billing this as a dream match as two tag team legends finally lock up. Scott and Rick Steiner ruled WCW at one point in time, with Team 3D (the former Dudleys) tearing up ECW and WWE in their prime. I watched the Steiners back in the day when they were babyfaces and always kind of liked them. I'd like to see them get a clean victory here --- with a Frankensteiner finish.

What Will Happen: I have a feeling the Steiners will pull it out.

What Did Happen: The Steiners took it -- Frankensteiner and all.

Challenge Match: Voodoo Kin Mafia vs. LAX
What Should Happen: It's VKM (the former Billy Gunn and Road Dogg) taking on the former TNA tag champs, the Latin American Exchange. The winner should be in line for a title shot -- I say it's time to put VKM back on top.

What Will Happen: LAX will get the win.

What Did Happen: LAX got the win after Homicide pinned Kip (Billy Gunn) James.

Doomsday Chamber Of Blood Match: Christian and Tyson Tomko and A.J. Styles vs. Sting and Abyss and Punisher
What Should Happen: Punisher is Test from WWE, Andrew Martin. This is a glorified cage match, and you have to pin a bleeding opponent to win. The man who gets the pin gets a shot at Kurt Angle or Samoa Joe in the next TNA pay-per-view. So who does that point to? Styles, Christian or Sting.

What Will Happen: My guess is that Styles pins Abyss to get the title shot.

What Did Happen: Man, was I close. Abyss pinned Styles for the victory. Abyss gets a title shot.

All Or Nothing Match: Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe
What Should Happen: In this one, four titles are on the line -- with the winner taking everything. In one corner, you have Samoa Joe risking his X-Division title and the TNA tag team titles (he doesn't have a partner). In the other corner, you have Mr. Angle, who is putting up his TNA world title and the IWGP world title he won in Japan. Who should win? It makes more sense for Angle to lose everything, especially since the main subplot to this match is that Angle's wife is divorcing him. That's nice, but the bottom line is that it's time for Joe to be on top of the heap. He's paid his dues.

What Will Happen: I'm going with Samoa Joe to get the ultimate victory.

What Did Happen: Angle is the man. The subplot -- his wife leaving him -- showed Angle falling apart, with crying jags and everything. In the end she gave Angle a chair to bop Joe in the noggin, and Angle won all the belts. It's WORTH TUNING INTO TNA to see what happens next. I was completely fooled by this swerve. WWE made a stupid mistake letting him go.

That's it. My picks for TNA's "Hard Justice." For the night, I had two right and three wrong. Two for five. Two wins, three losses -- which is considerably better than how the Minnesota Twins (my team) are conducting themselves on their current road trip. In fact, that's why I'm off my game this week kids. Those pitching-rich, hitting-poor Twinkies won't step up and grab a division the Tigers and Indians are trying to give away. It's driving me nuts.

Anyway, before I close out this lecture, don't forget to download EPISODE 41 of "Old School, New School," the Professor Wrestling podcast. This week, my co-hosts Dr. Mike Lano and George Schire tackle Vince McMahon's controversial return to TV, they explain what "high spots" and "hot tags" are -- and George has a close encounter with a certain bridge in Minnesota. Don't even think about missing it.

That's it!

Class is dismissed!
