A story of love, passion and betrayal, The Clearing deals with ethnic cleansing in 17th Century Ireland. Robert Preston, an English landowner, has fallen in love and married a young Irish woman. But it is a time of religious and political turmoil and, when Parliament instigates a policy to remove native Irish from the land, the Prestons soon find that their love for one another may not be enough to guarantee their happiness. Robert strikes a deal with the town’s cold and heartless governor, forcing his wife to make an impossible decision – one that will affect their marriage and the life of their newborn child.
