Conserve: Reduce-Reuse-Recycle. The Basics. Reduce trash, Reuse bags, containers and products. Recycle all You can. Make compost for plant and vegetable gardens.

Be efficient with water. Water is a precious resource. Turn down the temperature of your water heater to the warm setting (120°F). Install tankless water heaters. Use “water savers” on shower heads and faucets. Install a home water purification system and minimize use of plastic water bottles. Use drip irrigation for plants and trees. Plant drought tolerant native plants and trees!

Increase Energy Efficiency in Your Household. Home heating and cooling, hot water, and use of appliances may account for 25%-33% of a family's total contribution to greenhouse gases and air pollutants.

Perform an energy audit or hire a company to do for You. Click Here.

Replace incandescent lamps with compact fluorescents (CFLs) which can save up to 75% of the electricity used by incandescents. The best targets are 60-100W bulbs used several hours a day.

As appliances need to be replaced, purchase ENERGY STAR more energy-efficient models.

Use energy-saving settings on refrigerators, dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers

Purchase Green Electricity, Carbon Offsets and/or generate Your own! Generate your own electricity with solar photovoltaics and/or small wind turbines, or purchase “green tags” and/or carbon offsets from a whole host of renewable energy producers.

Drive Less and/or purchase a more efficient vehicle! Carpool/Vanpool, Car-share, Telecommute, Walk, Bicycle and/or Use Public Transit. IF purchasing a new car, consider “high efficiency” conventional car, gasoline-electric hybrids, electric car or plug-in hybrid.

Include more vegetable protein in Your diet! Each time you include less meat or fish, and more vegetable protein, you are helping make the best use limited land resources.

Enjoy local food! Join Community Supported Agriculture and Support local Farmers Markets. On average, a pound of food in the USA travels over 1300 miles from farm to market. Plant your own vegetable garden. Plant fruit trees.

Teach the Children! Teaching children about how the planet works, how ecosystems work together, and how humans affect those ecosystems, will help them grow to be responsible adults who will make the best choices for future generations.

VOTE! The environmental policies our leaders set affect Us and the rest of the world both by force and by example. The single most important action you can take is to participate in our government by voting!
