Nicoletta Florio is the founder and director of the Tahoe Regional Environmental Education T.R.E.E. Program of South Lake Tahoe.T.R.E.E., a 501 c 3 sub group of the Lions Club of South Lake Tahoe, has three primary branches; Environmental Education, Community Outreach, and Green Business.Nicoletta is a 19 year resident of Lake Tahoe whose passion for sustainability started in a Geology class in 1991.As her love for the environment grew, so did her wish to protect it.She decided to start her own environmental program, after being told by the Lake Tahoe Unified School District in 2002, that “Parents wouldn’t be interested…in environmental education…”.Her Environmental and Conscious Consumer Education programs, originally designed for second through fifth grade, gradually grew to include elementary, high school and college level curriculum. She has the only program in the region which practices and promotes sustainability while customizing curriculum which parallels the State Content Curriculum Standards. In 2003 T.R.E.E. expanded as two other branches, Community Outreach and Green Business were added.T.R.E.E. has hosted the regions first Green Business trades shows, conferences and mixers.Nicoletta’s Sustainable Lifestyles articles in the Tahoe Daily Tribune and Healthy Beginnings Magazine have covered subjects such as Green Building, Green Holidays, Green Transportation and more.It is Nicoletta’s belief that what we do each day - what we eat, what we wear, what we drive, how we choose to recreate – has an affect on the environment; and by making conscious choices we can promote a healthier environment and economy as well as help societies associate with our purchases. She knows that Conservation is not Depravation, and demonstrates, through T.R.E.E. that conservation is the key to a better outcome for all.
