Royals Pick Up Wells

POSTED: 9:09 am PDT August 19, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals signed Kip Wells to a contract which will expire at the end of the 2008 season on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old Wells, who was released by the Rockies last week, missed over two months this season due to a blood clot in his right hand.

Wells, who began the season as Colorado's Opening Day starter before being moved to the bullpen, is 1-2 this year with a 5.27 earned run average in 15 games.

The 10-year veteran is 65-93 with a 4.64 ERA in 246 big league games since his debut with the Chicago White Sox in 1999. He has also taken the mound for the Pirates, Rangers and Cardinals.
