Baltimore, MD -- (Sports Network) - Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett will miss his scheduled start against the Blue Jays on Saturday because of numbness in the pinky and ring finer on his right hand. The 28-year-old righty confirmed he has persevered through the injury for most of the season and felt he needed some time off. Beckett was roughed up for eight runs on eight hits in less than three innings against Toronto on Sunday, and is just 2-4 in his last six starts. Jon Lester and Daisuke Matsuzaka will move up their scheduled starts one day to accommodate Beckett, who is now scheduled to pitch the opener of a three- game series at New York next Tuesday.
