A's Reinstate Sweeney From DL; Option Gonzalez

POSTED: 11:35 pm PDT August 28, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics reinstated outfielder Ryan Sweeney from the 15-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Carlos Gonzalez to Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Sweeney, who started in right field and went 2-for-3 while scoring a run in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Twins, was shelved on August 13 with a sprained right thumb. It was his second stint on the DL as he was sidelined from May 29-June 12 with a left toe contusion.

Gonzalez, the key player the club acquired in an offseason deal that sent pitcher Dan Haren to Arizona, was batting .240 with four homers and 23 RBI in 77 games with Oakland since being recalled on May 30.
