Diamondbacks Activate Upton From DL, Bring Up P Scherzer

POSTED: 10:24 pm PDT August 29, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Justin Upton from the 15-day disabled list Friday.

Upton missed 43 games with a left oblique strain and had his starting spot in right field taken over by the recently acquired Adam Dunn while he was sidelined.

The 21-year-old Upton got off to a torrid start at the plate this season, but cooled off to post a .242 average with 11 home runs and 31 RBI in 83 games.

In 15 games with Triple-A Tucson, Upton hit .279 with three home runs and 10 RBI but recorded 26 strikeouts.

Arizona also recalled pitcher Max Scherzer from Tucson, as the fireballer will move to the bullpen after going 0-2 with a 2.90 ERA in 10 appearances -- three starts -- with the D'Backs earlier in the season.

To make room on the roster for the youngsters, the D'Backs optioned outfielder Alex Romero and pitcher Leo Rosales to Tucson.
