Rockies Retain Coaches Apodaca, Hill

POSTED: 3:41 pm PDT October 7, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Colorado Rockies announced Tuesday that pitching coach Bob Apodaca and first base coach Glenallen Hill will return for the 2009 campaign.

Apodaca, the sixth pitching coach in team history, will be back for his seventh season with the club. The Rockies boasted three 10-game winners in Aaron Cook (16-9), Ubaldo Jimenez (12-12) and Jorge De La Rosa (10-8) in 2008, and established a franchise record with a 4.32 earned run average.

The Rockies also announced Tuesday that hitting coach Alan Cockrell, third base coach Mike Gallego and bench coach Jamie Quirk will not be offered contracts for the 2009 season. Meanwhile, bullpen coach Rick Mathews will be reassigned to a role to be determined within the organization.

The reigning NL champs finished a disappointing 74-88 this year, 10 games behind the NL West champion Dodgers.
