Pena Replaces Cabrera On Yanks' Roster

Posted: 11:05 pm PST November 2, 2009

(Sports Network) - New York center fielder Melky Cabrera has been replaced on the Yankees' World Series roster by infielder Ramiro Pena.

Cabrera left Game 4 of the World Series in the sixth inning Sunday against the Phillies due to a slight strain of his left hamstring. Cabrera came up holding his hamstring after running out a ground ball to end the top of the frame. He was replaced in the outfield by Brett Gardner.

Cabrera was 1-for-3 with a run scored as the Yankees won the game, 7-4, leaving them a victory away from their 27th title in franchise history.

They lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.

Gardner started in Game 5 on Monday, an 8-6 Philadelphia win. Pena has not appeared in a game since the season finale on October 4. Gardner made a catch while crashing into the wall on a ball hit by Jayson Werth in the bottom of the fifth inning, but he stayed in the game.
