(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers are still searching for the first win on their current homestand and will take a shot at the Kansas City Royals tonight in the opener of a three-game series at Comerica Park.

Detroit has lost four in a row and was just swept in three games by the Cleveland Indians to open the homestand. In Wednesday's 9-7 loss to the Tribe in the series finale, Magglio Ordonez finished with two hits, including a home run, and three RBI to highlight the Tigers' offense.

Curtis Granderson also went deep and ended with three hits, three runs scored and a pair of runs batted in for Detroit, which is 33-31 as the host this season. Starter Justin Verlander was saddled with the loss after giving up five runs and seven hits over six innings of work. He struck out eight batters and walked three in falling to 10-14 on the season.

The Tigers, who will also host the Yankees and Angels on their current stand, will hand the ball to Zach Miner in Friday's series opener versus the Indians. Miner has seen most of his action out of the bullpen this season, but has been recently used as a starter. The righty is 4-1 with a 2.87 ERA in seven starts so far.

Miner last pitched on August 23 at Kansas City and hurled seven shutout innings of three-hit ball in a 4-0 victory. The effort pushed his overall mark to 7-4 with a 3.61 ERA in 39 games (seven starts) this season, while improving to 4-1 through his previous five decisions.

In 10 career games, four of which have been starts, against the Royals, Miner owns a 2-2 record and a 4.33 earned run average.

Kansas City suffered a three-game sweep at the hands of the Texas Rangers, and has dropped 10 of 11 and 17 of the last 20 contests. The Royals almost avoided a sweep to the Rangers, but lost a 3-2 decision in Wednesday series finale at Kauffman Stadium.

David DeJesus and Esteban German both drove in a run for the Royals, who will try to stop a five-game slide on the road this evening. Starting pitcher Brian Bannister was tagged with the loss, permitting three runs -- two earned -- on six hits in 6 2/3 frames. The righty struck out a career-high eight batters and issued just one walk.

The Royals are 27-38 as the visitor in 2008, and will give the ball to Kyle Davis tonight against the Tigers. Davies has dropped three consecutive starts and has a 6.75 ERA over that span. In his most recent outing on August 23, Davis squared off against Miner and absorbed the loss after yielding all four runs in six innings of a 4-0 blanking.

Davies, a right-hander, sports a 5-5 mark and a 4.81 earned run average in 15 starts this season. He is 1-3 in four career starts against Detroit.

KC leads the season series with Detroit by a 7-5 margin, with a 3-0 ledger in the Motor City. The Royals swept the Tigers at Comerica Park to kick off the 2008 campaign from March 31-April 3.
