Report: Warriors Keep Biedrins With Six-Year, $63 Million Deal

POSTED: 7:39 pm PDT July 27, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Golden State Warriors have reportedly prevented center Andris Biedrins from following Josh Childress' jump to Europe, instead locking the Latvian up with a six-year, $63 million contract.

ESPN.com reported the contract on Sunday night, which it said Biedrins is expected to sign on Monday. Biedrins was reportedly considering entertaining offers from European teams, and with the specter of Childress leaving the Hawks to sign with a Greek team, the Warriors acted quickly to make sure Biedrins didn't follow.

Taken 11th overall as a teenager in 2004, the 6-foot-11 Biedrins has developed into a decent big man. The 22-year-old averaged career-highs with 10.5 points and 9.8 rebounds in 27 minutes per game last season.

The move continues a busy offseason for the Warriors, who lost point guard Baron Davis to the Clippers before adding free agent forwards Corey Maggette and Ronny Turiaf, resigning swingman Kelenna Azubuike, and trading with the Nets for point guard Marcus Williams.
