PITTSBURG, Calif. -- Police Monday identified Joshua Ledford, 23, as the alleged drunken driver who was arrested Sunday after reportedly causing two crashes in Pittsburg, one of which seriously injured an elderly couple, Lt. Brian Addington said. The first crash occurred shortly after 5 p.m. on eastbound state Highway 4 when Ledford allegedly crashed into another vehicle near the Railroad Avenue exit and then fled the scene, Addington said. The victim followed Ledford's car, and both vehicles exited the highway at Railroad Avenue. Ledford then allegedly ran a red light coming off the exit ramp and collided with an oncoming vehicle, seriously injuring the elderly people inside it, Addington said. One of the victims was listed in stable condition today and the other was still in "guarded" condition, Addington said. Meanwhile, the victim from the first collision apparently ran the red light as well and also collided with another vehicle, police said. A female passenger in the original victim's car and a second female from the car he hit were both taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, Addington said. Ledford was arrested on suspicion of felony drunken driving, getting into an accident and causing injuries, Addington said. He is being held at the West County Detention Facility on $50,000 bail, a county jail official said. The Railroad Avenue off-ramp was closed for more than four hours while officers investigated the crashes.
