SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif. -- California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials Wednesday morning spotted a mountain lion behind their station in the Highlands area of unincorporated San Mateo County, according to the sheriff's office. Sheriff's Lt. Ray Lunny said the mountain lion was seen near the fire station in the area near Tower and Polhemus roads around 8:15 a.m. A sheriff's deputy was able to find mountain lion tracks at the scene, but no additional sightings have been reported, Lunny said. The mountain lion was spotted in an area near a residential neighborhood, so residents have been notified and are asked to call 911 if they see a mountain lion.
