EAST PALO ALTO, Calif. -- East Palo Alto police identified 31-year-old Jerry Bottley Jr. Tuesday as the man who was fatally shot in a garage during a robbery Monday afternoon. Detective Dave Carson said another man who was in the garage at 2540 Hazelwood Ave. with Bottley was robbed of cash but was not injured. His identity is not being released at this time, Carson said. The witness to the shooting was close friends with Bottley and is very distraught, Carson said. Police are giving him some time to recover before interviewing him at length, Carson said. Carson said the survivor never saw the suspects before and only gave a vague description of them. Police responded to the shooting around 12:30 p.m. Bottley was shot once in the upper torso, police said. An autopsy by the San Mateo County coroner's office was scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Carson said the shooting is not gang-related. Anyone with information regarding the case is asked to call Detective David C. Carson at (650) 853-5957; East Palo Alto police dispatch at (650) 321-1112; or the East Palo Alto tip line at (650) 853-8477.
