SANTA ROSA -- Investigators have arrested a 13-year-old Santa Rosa boy in connection with a shooting in a city park earlier this month that police say was likely gang-related.

Gang crimes detectives investigated the shooting, which was reported on the east side of Martin Luther King, Jr. Park in Santa Rosa at around 7 p.m. on June 9.

No one was injured, but a bullet struck the bumper of a pickup truck, police said.

Responding officers located two male juveniles near the park who may have been the shooter's targets. There had apparently been a verbal confrontation between the two and the suspected shooter prior to the shooting, police said.

Detectives later learned that gang slogans had been shouted just before the shooter drew a handgun from beneath his clothing and shot at the two victims as they ran away, police said.

Police found bullet casings from a large-caliber semi-automatic handgun at the scene of the shooting.

Detectives conducted surveillance outside the victim's home, and on Wednesday arrested him as he left the house with his mother.

The boy, who police say is a known gang member, had also been arrested May 26 for felony vandalism.

He was arrested Wednesday on two counts of attempted murder, one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied vehicle, and numerous gang enhancements.
