VACAVILLE -- Three teens setting off fireworks apparently started a 5-acre grass fire in Vacaville late Wednesday night, police said. Sgt. Matt Lydon said witnesses saw at least three males running from a hillside in the 200 block of Wrentham Drive around 11:50 p.m., when the fire was reported. Detective Bryan Larsen spotted the three in the area of Browns Valley Parkway and Brown Street. The trio ran into a nearby church parking lot and then down Brown Street, Lydon said. Police eventually apprehended the suspects. Two of them, Jared Shibuya and Kurt Erickson, both 18-year-old Vacaville residents, were booked into the Solano County jail. The third, a 17-year-old boy, was cited and released, Lydon said. Lydon said police believe there were additional people setting off fireworks in the area. Anyone with more information on the case is asked to call police at (707) 449-5200. Police are reminding residents that possession and use of fireworks in the city are prohibited.
