The explosion happened at about 10:30 p.m. in a home in the 4800 block of Anne Lane in Hermitage.

Hermitage Police said Vincent Fustos had been making a firework out of gun powder in his basement.

His house was severely damaged by the fire and the explosion completely removed one of his hands.
