Search On For Kitten Stolen From SF Shelter

Posted: 9:51 am PDT July 9, 2009

A partially blind, 3-month-old black kitten named Jack Daniels was stolen from an animal shelter in San Francisco on Wednesday afternoon and the SPCA was asking for the public's help in finding him.

The kitten needs medical attention including vaccinations and ongoing care for his eyes, SPCA spokeswoman Kiska Icard said.

Workers at the shelter at 2500 16th St. realized he was missing around 4 p.m. when, while giving away his brother Jim Beam for adoption, they noticed Jack Daniels was not with him, Icard said.

"Our animals are not in cages. They're all in rooms. So, someone saw an opportunity where no one was watching and took him," she said.

The facility has surveillance in the shelter but Icard said no one saw anything unusual.

Jack Daniels has a microchip the size of a grain of rice implanted in his shoulder, so any shelter with the same technology will be able to identify him if he is found, she said.

Icard is so eager to find the kitten that she is asking anyone with information to call her cell phone at (415) 760-4265.
