Two Arrested For Shooting Pellet Guns At Swimmers In San Anselmo

Posted: 6:04 pm PDT October 6, 2009

Police in San Anselmo have arrested two people who were allegedly using pellet guns to shoot at people at a high school swimming pool Monday evening.

A man who was inside the fenced-in pool area at Sir Francis Drake High School chased one suspect "a very short distance," grabbed him by the arm, and dragged him back to the pool area to await police, according to Sgt. Robert Schneider.

Police arrived at the school, located at 1327 Sir Francis Drake Blvd., at about 8:20 p.m. The man handed over the suspect he had detained and told officers he and another person were shooting into the pool area with pellet guns. He also told police that the other shooter ran west across the football field and was able to give officers his name, Schneider said.

Officers investigated the area and determined that the pair climbed onto some construction equipment behind the high school's gymnasium, overlooking the pool area. At the time, about 40 children and adults were at the pool for open swim hours, according to Schneider.

Officers identified the suspect as Michael Faison, 21, of San Anselmo. His companion was identified as a 16-year-old San Anselmo resident. Officers went to the teen's house and arrested him shortly thereafter, Schneider said. His name is being withheld because he is a juvenile. Officers also located two pellet pistols and a pellet rifle allegedly used by the pair.

The man who detained Faison was shot in the foot by a pellet, police said, but declined treatment. Nobody else at the pool reported any injuries.

Faison was booked at the Marin County jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, bringing a weapon onto school grounds, giving a false identity to a police officer, according to police. The juvenile was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and bringing a weapon onto school grounds. He was later released to his father, police said.
