ALAMEDA, Calif. -- An Alameda police officer remains in the hospital Friday and is expected to survive after suffering significant injuries after crashing his motorcycle while pursuing a traffic violator Thursday morning, a police sergeant said. Shortly after 8:25 a.m., the officer, a seven-year veteran, was pursuing a vehicle after its driver committed a traffic violation, according to Alameda police Sgt. Steve Rodekohr. As the officer was traveling toward the intersection of Harbor Bay Parkway and South Loop Road, another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction initiated a left turn in front of the officer, Rodekohr said. The officer performed an evasive maneuver to avoid the vehicle, but ended up crashing on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle who made the left turn was not arrested, but the crash is under investigation, police said.
