Tiburon To Debate Surveillance Cameras

Posted: 10:45 pm PST November 17, 2009Updated: 12:05 am PST November 18, 2009

A controversial plan to track every car, truck and SUV that rolls into the tony Marin County community of Tiburon will take center stage at a public hearing on Wednesday.

Tiburon police want to set up cameras on the only two roads into town. The cameras would record the license plate of every motor vehicle entering or leaving the town.

Police say they could track criminals that way. The American Civil Liberties Union said the the cameras would be intrusive and raise a host of problematic issues.

The Tiburon Town Council meets Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at 1505 Tiburon Blvd.
