Canonsburg Care Home Closed After Man Found Dead Outside

CANONSBURG, Pa. -- The state Department of Welfare has closed a Canonsburg personal care home without heat or electricity after a resident died in the cold outside.Washington County officials said Kingdom Manor resident Wayne Murphy, 60, died of exposure after he went missing from the home Saturday.His body was found at the bottom of a snowy staircase behind the Mt. Olive Baptist Church across the street Sunday evening.Nine people still living in the home Monday were moved to other facilities or taken in by relatives.Spokeswoman Stacey Witalec said welfare officials learned about the home's problems from media reports of Murphy's death. The home had already been ordered to close by Feb. 17 because of other problems found during an inspection.Canonsburg police continue to investigate.
