Suspected DUI Driver Killls Pedestrian In Berkeley

A pedestrian was killed night when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by an alleged drunken driver, a police spokesman said.

The accident happened shortly after 9 p.m. in the area of Adeline and Harmon streets.

The woman killed was a 57-year-old Oakland resident, police spokesman Officer Andrew Frankel said. Her name has not yet been released.

She died after being taken to Highland Hospital, according to the Alameda County coroner's bureau.

The driver, 42-year-old Jesse Kelly, of Oakland, stopped after the accident and cooperated with police, Frankel said.

He was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence causing injury or death, Frankel said.

Berkeley police are continuing to investigate the accident.
