San Leandro Considers Crematorium's Relocation

POSTED: 4:12 am PDT September 7, 2004

Tonight, San Leandro's City Council will hear what the public thinks about a crematorium's plans to move. All Faiths Crematory is wants to relocate to an empty building near Woodrow Wilson Elementary and John Muir Middle Schools. Parents and other residents are worried about possible health risks. They say arsenic, formaldehyde, lead and mercury will be released into the air. The city says the planned emissions meet all health standards for toxic substances. More than 700 people have signed a petition against the crematorium's move. The public hearing starts at 7 o'clock tonight at the Civic Center on East 14th Street.
