NORRISTOWN, Pa. -- Two friends were drinking together and one of them ended up dead.Prosecutors have charged a Pennsylvania woman with murder after they said she set her friend on fire using vodka and nail polish remover.Police said that the victim, Connie Bostic, 40, was so badly burned that they had to use dental records to identify her.Police said that the woman responsible for Bostic's death was Janeske Vargas, who was almost chipper as police led her to face the judge.Vargas, 35, was arraigned Thursday afternoon.Police said on Dec. 13, Vargas set Bostic's house on fire before calling a friend to pick her up.According to a witness affidavit, Vargas said, "I just opened the bottle of vodka and poured what was left over her and the bed and grabbed nail polish remover and just lit her and the floor on fire and it just went up in flames."Police said that Vargas ultimately admitted her crime to them. She told police she went to Bostic's house and they started drinking. She said she fell asleep and woke up to Bostic punching her. Vargas told police said that a fight started and Bostic accused her of being a bad friend. That was when Vargas said she hit Bostic with a bottle of vodka and started the fire."She said she was angry that the victim had 'hurt her, so she was going to hurt her back,'" Bruce Castor, of the Montgomery County District Attorney's office, said. After the attack, Vargas allegedly called a friend to pick her up. The friend said she decided to call police after Vargas told her about killing Bostic."(The witness) said that on the night of the fire, she got a telephone call from the defendant on the defendant's cell phone asking her to come to ... the murder scene, which was just up the block from her, and give her a ride home. When the defendant got in the car, she told (the witness) she had, quote, 'lit her on fire,'" Castor said.Reporters asked Vargas what she would say to Bostic, if she could."Not a thing," Vargas said.Vargas was arrested two weeks after the fire on charges of unsworn falsification to authorities, obstructing justice and witness intimidation.Vargas allegedly lied to investigators, at first telling them that Bostic wanted to kill herself, police said.Authorities later found a message on Bostic's voicemail, left by Vargas the morning after the fire, in which Vargas said, "I don't know what happened last night but you got really violent with me and you started hitting me and stuff and then you passed out and I left, but I left something behind," according to court documents. The coroner ruled Bostic died of burns and soot inhalation.Vargas is being held without bail. Castor said that he might seek the death penalty.
