A woman who was critically injured in an attack that killed her husband early Tuesday morning in the couple's El Cerrito home has died, according to El Cerrito police.

Julie Rogers succumbed to her wounds sometime in the afternoon, according to police Sgt. Wayne Mann.

Her husband, Paul Rogers, died at the home on Rifle Range Road where the couple was allegedly attacked by Julie Rogers' brother, 37-year-old Edward Wycoff of Citrus Heights, according to police.

Police received a disturbance call at 4:24 a.m. from one of the couple's two teenage children. When police arrived at the home, they found the husband and wife suffering from stab wounds.

Julie Rogers was taken by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Her husband was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police Cmdr. Gary Priebe.

Police Commander Gary Priebe said Wycoff was taken into custody at 8 a.m. by Roseville police after he sought medical treatment at a local hospital for injuries he claimed were from a motorcycle accident.

Priebe said police believed those injuries were suffered when Wycoff killed his brother-in-law in a family-related dispute.

"We are not sure exactly what the conflict was," Priebe said. "Obviously it was pretty severe."

While Priebe would not confirm that a sword was used in the attack he did characterize the weapon as a "pretty good size knife."

Authorities said attack that took place in a home in a quiet neighborhood in the 1400 block of Rifle Range.

"El Cerrito is generally a pretty quiet place," Priebe said. "These things (murders) don't happen every day."

Police have not yet released information regarding a possible motive for the killings.
