40 Lucky kids to win Christmas shopping spree

By Staff

RENO -- The Active 20-30 Club of Reno is taking 40 children shopping for Christmas at Kohl’s Department Store, 70 Damonte Ranch Parkway, Reno, NV on Saturday, December 17, and needs volunteers and donations.

Twice a year, the Active 20-30 Club buses in children to Kohl's from a Title 1 school, through an educational partnership. This spree, kids from Sun Valley Elementary School will each receive $100 worth of new clothes, jackets and shoes. Funds for this event, and for the Back-To-School Shopping Spree, are raised through the Club’s annual Kards 4 Kids Poker Tournament, and through partnerships and the generosity of community members. For every $100 raised, one child gets the uniforms, underwear, socks, shoes and warm clothes he needs to make it through another year. To donate to upcoming sprees, and to include more children in 2012, visit www.RenoActive2030.com.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will attend the spree on December 17 for pictures, and to hear the wishes of each child. The kids each receive a stocking, stuffed with goodies, to take home. The stockings contain items donated from corporations, businesses and volunteers within the Reno/Sparks area. But the stockings need more stuffing; to donate toys and treats, hygiene products, school supplies and art utensils, contact the Active 20-30 Club through the website: www.RenoActive2030.com.

Volunteers are needed to walk the children through the store and help them shop for their new clothes. Volunteers are expected to be at Kohl's on Damonte Ranch at 7:00 a.m., and the kids arrive between 7:45 and 8:00 a.m. Each adult is assigned one child. The shop goes from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m, after which they get their stockings and a visit with Santa. Snacks from Mimi's Café are also provided. To help a child, visit www.RenoActive2030.com, and sign up for the Christmas Shopping Spree as a volunteer.
