LAS VEGAS (AP) — A jailed former Nevada state lawmaker is facing a preliminary hearing on felony and misdemeanor charges dating to a February 2013 scuffle with police investigating a domestic dispute.

A Thursday court appearance for Steven Brooks will be his second this week.

Brooks pleaded not guilty Tuesday to a separate gun charge dating to allegations that he threatened to harm an Assembly leader days before the 2013 legislative session.

The former Democrat from North Las Vegas spent 16 months in California jail for a March 2013 freeway scuffle with police the day he was expelled from the state Legislature.

Thursday's hearing will determine if there's enough evidence to send Brooks to trial in state court on felony resisting an officer with a weapon and misdemeanor assault, battery and false statement charges.
