MINDEN, Nev. (AP) — A conservative Nevada think tank that argues many government employees are overpaid is suing the Tahoe Douglas Sewer Improvement District to try to force the release of the district's employee salary records.

The Nevada Policy Research Institute filed a lawsuit in state court in Minden on Wednesday accusing the sewer district and its general manager Janet Murphy of failing to comply with the Nevada Public Records Act.

The institute wants to post the payrolls on its website, TransparentNevada.com.

The lawsuit says all government agencies are required to respond to a request for public records within five business days, but that district officials have ignored the institute's requests since April.

Murphy did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment on Thursday.
