RENO -- Police are trying to find out what lead to a man stabbing two victims in two separate locations on Sunday near downtown Reno.
On Sunday at around 12:30 p.m., officers responded to St. Vincent’s Dining Hall, 325 Valley road, on the report of a stabbing. While responding, another stabbing was reported on Evans St. just south of 4th St.
While investigating these two crime scenes officers discovered the same suspect was related to both locations. The suspect was located nearby and detained without incident. 41-year-old Richard Schmitz, was positively identified by witnesses from both crime scenes. Schmitz had a knife with blood on it in his possession.
One victim from St. Vincent’s were treated and released by REMSA paramedics. The other did not seek immediate medical attention. The victim from Evans St. was transported to Renown Medical Center. All victims’ injuries were not life threatening.
Schmitz was arrested and charged with three counts of Battery with a Deadly Weapon, one count of Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Simple Battery.
