More details emerging in Tahoe murder-suicide

LAKE TAHOE -- More details are coming to the surface on a murder-suicide that occurred last in Lake Tahoe, and police now believe the woman that was killed by her husband was likely asphyxiated.

Last Wednesday at around 2:30 p.m., the body of 43-year-old Lyra Fisher-Bomediano was discovered by police in a Lone Pine Lodge room after they had been called to the scene on reports of suspicious activities. Fisher-Bomediano's 2-year-old son was nearby in the room and the little boy's cries were what initially alerted managers to the situation.

The first person to be suspected in the death was 41-year-old Aaron Fisher, Fisher-Bomediano's husband and father of the little boy, said Police Chief Brian Uhler. It is unknown how long Fisher-Bomediano was dead in the room before police discovered her.

On Friday at around 1:30 p.m., police discovered Fisher's body hanging from a tree in the forest behind Raley's Supermarket near Stateline, and they are considering his death a suicide.

An autopsy performed on Fisher-Bomediano found "no definitive cause of death", however; there were signs that she was asphyxiated. The official cause of death could take months when pathology results are returned, according to El Dorado County Sheriff's Detective Matt Harwood.

Police reports list Fisher-Bomediano as a South Lake Tahoe resident, but they are investigating whether she lived there permanently and why she was in the hotel room. The husband had just moved back from Hawaii earlier this month.

Fisher had displayed unusual behavior in the final days before the murder-suicide, Uhler said. He was arrested on June 19th on suspicion of drunken driving after police say he was 'highly intoxicated' while driving a vehicle off the road near Emerald Bay. What police see as unusual is that he Fisher did not try to contact his wife or child after being bonded out of jail. “Those facts don't line up with common sense,” Uhler said.

The crash may also have been a suicide attempt where Fisher tried to drive off a cliff, Uhler said.

As of this point, police do not have a motive in this case and Fisher remains the only suspect. The case remains under investigation as police try to piece together what happened on the final day of Fisher-Bomediano's life.

The couple's son is in the care of Child Protective Services, but he was not physically harmed during the incident.
