Police arrest woman as a repeat burglar, thief

RENO -- A woman, categorized as a repeat offender, has been arrested for the latest in the list of theft-related crimes.

On Tuesday, detectives of the Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program arrested Meredith O'Flaherty for 2 counts of burglary (Felony), 2 counts of possession of stolen property (Misdemeanor), one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle (Felony) and one count of obtaining money under false pretenses (Misdemeanor).  O'Flaherty has a criminal history dating back to 1995 with 7 prior felony convictions.

Patrol Officers initially identified O'Flaherty's involvement in a series of burglaries, including the theft of an urn that contained the remains of the victim's spouse.  The victim was a refugee from the Holocaust and her husband was a long-time casino employee in the Reno area.  Repeat Offender Program Detectives were able to recover the urn along with additional property from that burglary and several others.  Detectives located O'Flaherty driving a stolen vehicle in the afternoon and subsequently arrested her in a residence of an acquaintance 

There are additional arrests pending regarding this burglary series.  The Northern Nevada Repeat Offender Program is comprised of detectives from the Reno and Sparks Police Departments.
