Police target underage drinking during Santa Pub Crawl

 

RENO -- This past weekend, detectives of the regional Street Enforcement Team (S.E.T.) and the University of Nevada (UNRPD) conducted an undercover alcohol compliance check during the Santa Pub Crawl event in downtown Reno.

The focus of the operation was to target bars and casino that sell alcohol to minors and increase the awareness of underage drinking. This operation was completed in conjunction with Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) and the use of grant funds provided by E.U.D.L. (Enforcement of Underage Drinking Laws).

Detectives used underaged decoys to go into bars and casinos and attempt to purchase alcoholic beverages. In all, 55 bars/casinos were checked, and of those, bartenders at the following locations were cited:

This year's operation resulted in about 91% compliance rate. The SET Team would like to take this opportunity to remind bartenders and alcohol servers to please be diligent in checking identification on all alcohol sales. 

In addition to the alcohol compliance check, detectives also checked to see if bartenders were in compliance with the State of Nevada’s, Alcohol Beverage Awareness program and in possession of a valid alcohol education card. Out of all the locations checked, 4 bartenders did not possess their Alcohol Education card.
