Reno man arrested in golf course shooting

RENO -- A Reno man is in custody tonight, charged with one count each of Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Assault with a Deadly Weapon stemming from an incident which took place at the 16th hole of the Lakeridge Golf Course yesterday afternoon.

Reno Police first received a call yesterday at about 3:35 p.m., with several other people calling soon after to report that a man had been shot on the golf course.  The course had to be evacuated as officers attempted to remove the injured man and locate the gunman.  As officers surrounded a house on Wycliffe Circle which witnesses indicated as the location of the shooter, it was discovered the man had driven to a local attorney’s office where he subsequently surrendered to police without further incident.

At this time, it appears the altercation began when one of two golfers playing the 16th hole accidentally struck the man’s home with an errant golf ball, breaking a window.  The man exited his home with a shotgun and at some point during the ensuing argument, fired once at the golfers, striking one of them.  The 33-year-old man who was shot was taken to a local hospital with very minor wounds and was treated and released.

The shooter has been identified as 59-year-old  Jeff Feleming.
