Library brings new technology to community

Carson City Library
Carson City Library has opened a digital lab full of new features and technology.

CARSON CITY -- A variety of digital tools, computers, classroom space, and programming included in Carson City library's new digital lab, which just opened this week, is putting the libary on a whole new level.

The Carson City library has gone above and beyond. Their new digital lab just opened this week and offers much more than your traditional reading experience.

Deputy Director Tammy Westergard says this new @ Two digital learning center offers people of all age’s exposure to 21st century technology.

“We know there is a digital divide in this area that keeps those who have access to these kinds of tools,” Westergard said.  “Verses those who don’t, from leveraging opportunities.”

A federal grant helped pay for a teen portal area, and a training hub that teaches everything from using the equipment to navigating different websites, and a lot more.  Les Gorsuch is taking full advantage of these classes.

“It’s free,” Gorsuch said. “I need all the training I can get. They didn’t have computers when I went to school.”

If you’re a premier library card user, you can check out a variety of digital equipment from digital cameras, to video cameras, and tripods. The digital lab also gives high school students the option to continue their school work after hours with programs they need.

“And so when schools closed and if the students do not have access to the internet at home. Then they were able to put that software on these computers,” said superintendent of the Carson City school district Richard Stokes.

The @ Two lab is open to everyone who is in good standing with the library.
