Friends of Washoe County Library donate $100,000 to the Washoe County library system

RENO --  The Friends of Washoe County Library (FWCL), will present a check for $100,000 to the Board of Library Trustees at their meeting at 4 p.m. on January 16th at the Downtown Library.  The Friends will also present the check at 10 a.m. at the Board of County Commissioners meeting on January 22nd.  This check represents the Friends donation for 2012.

Unfortunately the Library System continues to function under difficult and trying conditions due to county budget reductions over the past few years.  The Friends are extremely happy that we can make this donation at this time.  We know the money will be put to good use to continue library program, purchase new materials and help with technical upgrades.

The Friends raises funds through its widely popular book sales, it used book and gift store located in the Northwest Branch Library, special events, membership dues, and interest earned on its Endowment.  FWCL’s first allocation to the library system was in 1991 for $4,000.  Since then the FWCL has allocated over$1.6 million to the Washoe County Library System, with some funds going directly to individual branches and other funds supporting system wide projects and needs.  This year the book warehouse has moved from its old location on Gentry Way into part of the Sierra view Branch in Reno Town Mall.  The grand opening and book sale will be held on January 18th for members and on the 19th for the general public and the book sale has been renamed Read Again Bookstore.

FWCL is an over 800 member 501©3 non-profit organization dedicated to advocating, fundraising and providing support for the Washoe County Library System.  Its purpose is to ensure a first class, free public library that will remain accessible to all Washoe County residents for generations to come.  To learn more, please contact www.washoelibraryfriends.org. or call 775-324-5522.
