Washoe County student athletes shine in Winter sports

RENO --  Students and coaches from schools across Washoe County are celebrating successful winter sports seasons in basketball, wrestling, and skiing this month, now that the winter sports season has come to an end.

Among the successful winter sports squads is the girls’ basketball team from Reno High School, who last month won both regional and state championships. The team finished with a season record of 27-3.

“To win a state championship you have to have talent, but you also need to work as a team,” said Reno Coach Shane Foster. “This group of young ladies did that better than any other team in the state of Nevada this year, and I am very proud to be associated with them. The championship is a testament to their hard work and dedication to their sport.”
At Galena High School, the girls’ ski team also brought home a state title, their fourth since 2000.

“We are extremely proud of the entire girls’ ski team. It was a total team effort,” said Co-Head Coach Quin Rescigno. “We’re fortunate to have three nationally ranked skiers, but we could not have won State without our next five skiers, who skied their best in the state finals—truly a total team effort. Co-Head Coach Chris Gant and I very much enjoyed our time coaching both the boys and girls teams.”

Congratulations to all of our Washoe County Student athletes for their many accomplishments this season:
