As a seasoned campaigner I have walked our district door-to-door and what I have discovered are too many unemployed people and too many vacant homes due to foreclosure.
Having seen the impacts of this recession on my small business and on our friends and neighbors, I decided to run for the State Senate. I want to represent people and small businesses at the Legislature. I am hard working and will vote to protect business owners from the Legislature's continual imposition of more and higher taxes on companies.
I am passionate about people and have first-hand knowledge about the struggles of men like my father, grandfather and father-in-law, war veterans who needed medical assistance. I also helped my mother get medical care when she got sick and was dying. I believe in listening to people to find out what they need and working to help resolve their issues.
If honesty, integrity and hard work are important to you, I need your vote on November 6, 2012.
I first visited Reno in 1971 and chose to move here in 1985. I love northern Nevada and the opportunities which abound for those willing to take a risk and work hard.
After moving here I worked at Gold Dust East, Harold's Club, Red Cross Shoes, Houston Shoes and The Black Angus in Parklane Mall. Remember Park Lane Mall? At the Angus I waited tables, ran cocktails and even tended bar. I waited on a lot of friendly people and still run into them around town.
I met my husband Gene Martin on his birthday in 1988. At that time, he owned All-Gen Services. Later in 1988 I went to work for Gene. We have worked together side by side ever since.
Because of our business, I learned to be a small engine mechanic and powder coat manufactured parts. I even obtained a Forklift Operator's license!
I am not afraid of getting dirty and I know hard work is the key to success. I am willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done.
In 2001, Gene and I purchased a small manufacturing company, J & S Security Doors. We personally take care of customers from start to finish. J & S Security Doors manufactures security, screen and storm doors, gates, railings and window guards.
Our business is family operated. I visit the homes and businesses of people and prepare the estimates, my brother Robert Quelch welds the customer’s orders and Gene installs the doors and/or gates, railings and window guards. On occasion, I powder coat the orders and often go with my husband to assist with the installs. I have visited thousands of customers and homes and over the last 11 years since we have owned J & S Security Doors. I have watched, felt and experienced first hand the rise and fall of our economy in northern Nevada.
Gene and I have been married for 24 years. We have five children and nine grandchildren who we treasure. We understand the strength of family and the importance of family support in today's society.
I have been an active member in the Northern Nevada Chamber of Commerce, Soroptimist International, Builders Association of Northern Nevada, Reno Photo Club and various Republican Women's groups.
I believe in our community and want to work for a better future for our children and grandchildren.

As a small business owner in the Truckee Meadows I have been blessed with the support of our community. I want to give back to this community by being your State Senator for District 13.
Despite the recession which continues in our great state, government spending continues to grow. Nevadans have made hard decisions and hard sacrifices over the past few years, and we should expect no less from our government. I will examine the state budget very carefully and look for ways to cut waste and eliminate unnecessary program.
Less governmental regulation and a friendly tax environment are a key component in attracting new businesses to Nevada and creating jobs. We must continue to keep Nevada competitive and promote our state as a great place to live and work.
It’s time to put Nevada’s families and businesses first, ahead of politics and special interests. I pledge to listen to you and work for what is important to you.
Quality schools, new jobs and fiscal responsibility with public funds: these are the cornerstones of my pledge to you.
Check back with this site as I will continue to post information about my positions on issues that are important to the citizens of Senate District 13.

SMALL BUSINESS ALERT: Effective March 9, 2012 the Secretary of State issued a new regulation effectively eliminating the home-based business exemption for any business that is an LLC or a corporation. This change is a $200 per year penalty on a small business, run out of a home, earning less than $26,000 per year, if that business was incorporated. -- Cassandra G. Jones, Esq., Houghton Jones
